Ted's Excellent Pictures Taken In Buenos Aires
December 2015

Washington has the White House - Buenos Aires has the Pink House (La Casa Rosada)
Photographed from Plaza de Mayo, the main square of central Buenos Aires
While this is the office of the president, the residence is elsewhere

Like some of Argentina's presidents, the façade is unbalanced!

At night, it's almost like the colours are reversed!

Pirámide de Mayo, added in 1811 to Plaza de Mayo, to mark the first anniversary of the May Revolution
(the start of the war of independence from Spain, which was achieved on July 9 1816)

Obelisco de Buenos Aires, Plaza Republica (center of Avenida 9 de Julio at Corrientes)
Built 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city in 1536

As Basil Fawlty would say, 'Don't mention the (Falklands) war!'

Galerias Pacifico - frescoed posh downtown shopping center ...

... and former torture center (according to Wikipedia and The Shock Doctrine book)

It's December, almost the start of summer in the southern hemisphere:
Christmas shoppers brave the heat wave on Calle Florida
(the Sparks Street Mall of Buenos Aires)

El Ateneo Grand Splendid - Ornate former theatre (ca. 1919),
now 'one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world'

Interior pictures from the internet:

Street art in San Telmo - I believe "Jolivud" is pronounced like "Hollywood", but not even Google knows what it has to do with San Telmo

San Telmo is the oldest, and best, barrio (neighbourhood) in Buenos Aires

You don't say!

Like the sign says: It is what it is

Hollow calabash gourds for yerba mate tea

They sure like to tango here

Tango spillover!

Holy cow, thatsa some bife de lomo (tenderloin)

US$17 with side, if you know where to go:

There are alternatives to steak every day (if you have a problem with steak every day) : lamb, goat, ribs, sausages, chicken,
and Lechón (Suckling Pig - half portion pictured above) are also available from the asado to satisfy your inner caveman

This is what the little critters looked like on my way in:

If you don't speak Spanish, here's a tip : when snacking on an empanada, just say 'Tiene usted una botella de la Ass Burner Sauce?'
