Ted's Excellent Pictures Taken In Turkey May 2011

The highest concentration of hot air ballooning on a daily basis is here in Cappadocia (central Turkey).

Cappadocia is mentioned in the New Testament, but this region of central Anatolia has been important since Hittite times
(the Bronze Age; ca. 4000 years ago) who are mentioned in the Old Testament.

This was the view from my room each morning

"Cappadocia is Turkey's most visually striking region, where erosion over some 7000 years
has formed caves, clefts, 'fairy chimneys' and gentle folds in the soft volcanic rock."

Used for thousands of years for housing and food storage, there are also extensive underground cities used to hide from enemies.

Now it's my turn to go up in one

I counted 60 balloons in the air (a typical day) but the most I could get in one picture was about 45

The town of Göreme, where I stayed (in a stone room, of course!)

Pilot Mark Stevens pours the bubbly not just because it's the tradition,
but because he landed the basket spot-on the trailer for the first time!
