Ted's Excellent Pictures Taken In Giza, Egypt
June 1989-r652
The big three: Cheops, Chephron and Mycerinus
(also known as Khufu, Khafra and Menkaure)
Cheops and Chephron
The Pyramid of Cheops, or The Great Pyramid of Giza,
"is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to remain largely intact" (Wikipedia)
Of the big three, Cheops is the biggest (147m / 481ft high) ... and the biggest tourist attraction
The descending corridor inside Cheops - is harder to negotiate than it looks!
Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara
I happened to be there when this sarcophagus was lifted out of the ground after perhaps being buried for thousands of years?
The Great Sphinx of Giza ... with the sun at a bad angle
(The Pyramid of Chephron / Khafra in the background)
How it looks with the sun at a good angle (Wikipedia)
"Many renovations to the stone base and raw rock body were done in the 1980s, and then redone in the 1990s" (Wikipedia)
The Alabaster Sphinx of Memphis
The Colossus of Rameses II at Memphis
Next: Luxor Temples and Valley of the Kings
